According to Representative Harris, scary liberals are hiding behind every corner. Is that true, or does Cody Harris see things?
There are many things that Palestine in Anderson County is known for. Most of the prisons in Texas are located in Anderson County, making the prison industry the number one economic driver in the area. Palestine was once the home of famed Confederate John H. Reagan. And the Slocum Massacre took place in Anderson County.
Palestine is not known for being a liberal oasis of wokeness, full of latte-sipping leftists being inclusive and spreading equity.
Unfortunately, Representative Cody Harris is faced with woke ideology everywhere he seems to turn. More unfortunate for the people in House District 8, whose needs will likely be neglected as Harris irradiates all traces of wokeness from Anderson County.

You’re thinking, “what the fuck is that?”
According to Investopedia: Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing refers to a set of standards for a company’s behavior used by socially conscious investors to screen potential investments.
Environmental criteria consider how a company safeguards the environment, including corporate policies addressing climate change, for example. Social criteria examine how it manages relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and the communities where it operates. Governance deals with a company’s leadership, executive pay, audits, internal controls, and shareholder rights.
With so many issues in the business world related to environmental impact, social ethics, and corrupt leadership, it’s no surprise that people are starting to put their money where their mouths are in terms of investing, and businesses are making pledges to be better in these areas.

Earlier this year, Tesla was kicked off of the S&P 500 ESG Index due to allegations of racism and unjust factory working conditions, as well as the company not having a low-carbon strategy, or business code of conduct.
Since gaining the Tesla HQ and SpaceX is such a big deal in Texas and Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover is such a big deal with Republicans, you have to wonder if this was Cody Harris’ motivation for introducing this bill.
The bill says that any financial institution chartered or headquartered in Texas prohibits using any type of ESG Index to measure a customer’s long-term risks when making a loan or extension of credit. It also included that financial institutions cannot consider a person’s social media posts, organization membership, or employer.
If a financial institution violates this, it’ll face a $50,000 fine for the first occurrence and $250,000 for each additional occurrence.
Why do people still think Republicans know anything about doing business?
First of all, if you’re an investor, are you interested in investing in a company that lends money to high-risk clients?
Under this bill, financial institutions wouldn’t be able to refuse lending money to a person who posts on social media that they plan on borrowing money to buy a tank and run in through the Governor’s mansion. Likewise, they wouldn’t be able to refuse to lend to the Proud Boys or Neo-Nazis. This is an idiotic way of doing business.
At least they’ll be stopping the “woke agenda.”
It isn’t about protecting big oil, either. Exxon is at the top of the S&P 500 ESG Index.

With the Republicans now embracing the Neo-Nazi Replacement Theory, the allowance of Nick Fuentes among their ranks, the appearance of Viktor Orbán at CPAC, and Kanye West’s recent profession of love for Hitler; it’s no surprise that Cody Harris would stoop to use one of the oldest anti-Semitic tropes in the book.
Practicing bigotry out in the open is part of the Republican agenda.
Regardless, Cody Harris’ district consists of four counties. Each county has a district attorney.
The District Attorney in Anderson County is Allyson Mitchell. She’s a Republican.
In Cherokee County, the District Attorney is Elmer Beckworth. He’s also a Republican.
Henderson County’s District Attorney is Jenny Palmer. Would you believe, she’s also a Republican?
And in Navarro County, William Thompson is the District Attorney calling all the shots. Yep, he’s a Republican, too.
None of these people have received any money from George Soros.

He doesn’t even know. He posted a picture of himself with the Sheriff of Anderson County, holding HB799. The Anderson County Sheriff is also a Republican. There isn’t a so-called “radical, Soros-funded District Attorney” within 100 miles of Palestine.
So, what is this bill REALLY about?
It’s an attack on the Brady List.
The Brady List is a list compiled usually by a prosecutor’s office or a police department containing the names and details of law enforcement officers who have had sustained incidents of untruthfulness, criminal convictions, candor issues, or some other type of issue placing their credibility into question.
It helps prosecutors keep track of police officers who have engaged in or have been accused of misconduct.
Here are some of the misconduct charges that could land an officer on the list:
- Falsifying a police report
- Fabricating or tampering with evidence
- Lying on the witness stand
- Coercing witnesses
- Brutalizing people
- Accruing a large number of misconduct lawsuits or complaints
- Racism
Representative Harris’ bill states that an officer cannot be added to the Brady List until after misconduct allegations are sustained.
Texas is one of the worst states for upholding excessive force complaints, discrimination complaints, and criminal misconduct complaints. For example, if 100 complaints of discrimination are filed, 100 complaints go on the Brady List, but only 3 of them are upheld. That means the other 97, which weren’t upheld, won’t go on the Brady List if Harris’ bill passes.
One of the biggest problems with this is that law enforcement agencies have historically had a close relationship with bad behavior. So, complaints about misconduct and discrimination might be easily dismissed in a good ol’ boy system, like the systems they have in East Texas. As a result, an officer could have dozens of complaints against him, each dismissed by the Captain or Sheriff with a pat on the back.
What Cody Harris is proposing is that it wouldn’t matter if an officer had dozens or even hundreds of complaints against them. If they aren’t upheld, a District Attorney won’t know the officer is dirty and could use that officer on the witness stand in a robbery, tax fraud, or even a high-profile murder case.
It should be noted:
- Texas has more overturned wrongful convictions than any other state in America.
- Texas is one of the worst states for racial profiling.
Cody Harris’ bill is a free pass for the so-called bad apples and a push to continue the good ol’ boy network in urban and suburban areas (none of which are present in Harris’ district).
At least he’ll be owning the libs.
All this bill would set Texas up for a new barrage of lawsuits from every civil rights group in America. This is a cost, in the long run, which taxpayers will foot the bill.

On Monday, he put out a statement. He returned a $500 donation to the Texas State Teachers Association / National Education Association.
It was extremely performative.
According to his letter, which he made public:
- “Sadly, much of the recent controversy in public education has been centered around the leftist indoctrination of our children.”
- “Your organization promotes the LGBT agenda.”
- “You celebrated the Democrats winning control of the U.S. Senate.”
- “And publishing multiple leftist ideologies.”
- Your values are against my constituents and Texas as a whole.”

Their priorities are school funding, teacher pay, educator health care, and no vouchers.

Perhaps Representative Harris meant the Civil Rights Award that they host. Maybe that’s what he thinks is woke. Or perhaps Cody Harris is making know his position on school vouchers, a.k.a. segregation.
Since at least two voucher programs have already been introduced in the Texas House, it’s safe to say we know how Cody Harris will be voting on them.
At least we know that Representative Harris will fight the big, bad, woke monsters hiding behind every corner.
