Texas Democrats and National Democratic Training Committee to Spend the Next Four Weeks Training Candidates to Win Up and Down the Ballot in Texas
Austin, Texas — Today, the Texas Democratic Party and National Democratic Training Committee announced a new four week candidate training series to hold Republicans accountable and ensure that Texas Democratic candidates are prepared and getting the resources they need to win up and down the ballot in municipal elections in 2021 and general elections in 2022.
In the wake of a massive winter storm that left over 80 Texans dead and exposed failed Republican leadership in the last twenty years in Texas, Democrats are getting to work.
Beginning this evening, Tuesday, March 2 at 6:00 PM CT, the new, innovative four week candidate training program will:
- Teach candidates how to manage campaign finances and fundraise.
- Teach candidates how to message and go over their story.
- Ensure that candidates are properly managing their volunteers and grassroot support.
- Ensure that candidates know the ins and outs of digital campaigning — especially during the age of coronavirus.
As of Friday morning, more than 145 potential candidates from across the state have already signed up.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“In the wake of the deadliest winter storm in decades due to failed Republican leadership in the state of Texas, The Texas Democratic Party and National Democratic Training Committee know that winning elections has never been more crucial than it is right now. That’s why we created an innovative candidate training program to ensure that our candidates have the skills and resources necessary to win up and down the ballot in November.
“Texans know that when Democrats are elected, every Texan has a fair shot to get ahead. Texas will turn blue if we do the work and put our candidates in the best position to succeed. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our terrific Texas Democratic candidates and know that the path to winning elections in Texas starts now.”
National Democratic Training Committee Founder and CEO Kelly Dietrich issued the following statement:
“Texas is turning blue, there is no doubt about it. However, real change takes time and dedication. The investment that the Texas Democratic Party is making in candidate training will reap benefits across the state, up and down the ballot. We are proud to stand with these incredibly talented individuals who are running to make a difference in their communities. The tools we will teach them throughout this series of trainings will set them on a path for victory.”
