Key Vote Alert: Texas Republicans Once Again Chose Partisanship Over Country
AUSTIN, Texas — Today, Senate Democrats passed a $1.9 trillion stimulus package aimed at providing financial relief to American households still impacted by the previous administration’s befuddled handling of the economic fallout related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During their debate the Senate GOP members, which included Texas Republicans John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, voted down party lines in an unsuccessful effort to kill the resolution, which would provide Americans a $1,400 direct payment from the federal government.
This is yet another example of Cornyn and Cruz choosing politics over helping the people of Texas, voting down a stimulus bill that would directly aid Texans across the state.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“Ted Cruz and John Cornyn have once again put politics over people by voting down the $1400 direct payment for Texans to help us recover from the coronavirus crisis. This isn’t surprising but nonetheless, it is disappointing.
“Ted Cruz and John Cornyn consistently vote against the needs of the working class. This vote last night and the ‘vote-a-rama’ stunt was shameful. A clear majority of Americans support strong COVID-19 relief, and it’s time for our senators to put the interests of Texans ahead of their own politics.”
