Is it time to check in with Congressman Roy and make sure he’s ok?
So far this week, Chip Roy cried on the House floor, twice. A few weeks ago he announced that he was quitting social media. Maybe he’s having social media withdraws. Maybe he’s frustrated that Republicans are in the minority. Or maybe he just doesn’t know what to do anymore.
But, it’s not like we haven’t all seen Chip Roy cry before. He’s a frequent crier. Why is he crying this week?
Yesterday, the House moved forward with a budget resolution for the Covid stimulus package. After Republicans, held the reigns throughout 2020, holding up any stimulus bills as Americans sunk into poverty, unemployment, and homelessness. Yesterday, he was upset that they were moving too quickly and was looking for reasons to hold up helping his constituents.

Yes, he’s a drama queen and he’s also from a highly gerrymandered district. The stance that he’s taken against the stimulus bill will only further hurt his constituents.
In a moment of bipartisanship, Representative Yarmuth consoled him by telling him that he will have a chance to offer amendments and debate.
With further bipartisanship, Representative Hoyer coddled his emotions and said, “Now, now. Everything will be ok.” (I’m paraphrasing) Notice a difference between how Democrats reacted to Chip Roy as opposed to how the Republicans have been treating us for the last four years. Representative Hoyer’s comments to Chip Roy is the exact reason we’re democrats. Because we have empathy. Even for cry babies.
But, that wasn’t the only time he cried on the House floor this week. Today, Chip Roy cried because AOC hurt his friend, Ted Cruz’s feelings.
However, Ted Cruz was complicit in the violent insurrection on January 6th.
During that insurrection, the domestic terrorists were looking for AOC and intended on causing her harm.
Last week, AOC tweeted about the Robinhood/Gamestop thing, and then Ted Cruz tweeted about how he agreed with her.
To which, AOC responded by saying that she would be happy to work with Republicans, but Ted Cruz could sit this one out because he almost had her murdered three weeks ago.
That was true. He incited an insurrection. AOC and many other elected officials could have been killed. It was a horrible and traumatic experience for those in the capital that day.
AOC is right to feel this way.
Yet, Chip Roy found what AOC said offensive and demanded she apologizes to Ted Cruz.
Cruz said this: “You know, there’s a lot of partisan anger and rage on the Democratic side. It’s, it’s not healthy for our country, it’s certainly not conducive of healing or unity, but everyone has to decide how they want to interact with others.”
Unity? Now they want unity.
