They are calling it “socialism, an attack on democracy, and radical.” 😂
C-Span is highly entertaining today. It will likely be entertaining all week. These Republicans have their panties in a bunch over the new house rules. One of the rules is to have gender-inclusive language. You would have thought the Democrats ordered an abortion for every American the way that the GOP is losing it.
“Soviet-style rules package” and “ram through socialist policies like the green new deal..” have been uttered by millionaire congressman that spoke.
Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IA) expressed his outrage at gender neutrality in Dems’ rules package: “I’m a proud husband, proud father of a son and a daughter. They don’t even want you to be able to say that anymore.”
Jim McGovern (D-MA) answered: “If the gentleman is interested in an honest debate I hope he will inform us wherein the rules package it says that you can’t refer to yourself as a father, the son, a grandfather, a wife, I mean whatever. There’s nothing in the rules package that says that”
What else is in the rules?
The permanently establishing of an Office of Diversity and Inclusion and other diversity measures. This is long overdue and needed. But, the Republicans nevertheless are shouting “sOcIaLiSm.”
There is also a rule in there that will allow congress to subpoena Trump after he leaves office. Republicans are calling it “holding on to the past and not moving forward,” but there are still 15 days until Biden is sworn in. We likely won’t know the extent of damage Trump did for months. It’s necessary because the crimes that Trump and his regime committed will continue to affect America for a long time.
Democrats were having none of it.
Other eyerolling quotes from the GOP.
Tom Cole (R-OK): “These changes are some of the harshest and most cynical that I have experienced during my time in Congress.”
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy on limiting the MTR in 117th Congress rules package: “I will promise you this. Two years from today, when you are longer in the majority, we will correct the course of history. Because we are not afraid to debate. We are not afraid of ideas.”
Even once Trump is long out of the spotlight, his brand of the GOP will linger on. Democrats have the White House, we have the House, we’ll know after Georgia’s election whether we’ll have the Senate or not. The party of Regan is no more, the GOP is now the party of Trump. Over the next few years they will embarrass us, work against the people, frustrate us, but most of all they will keep us entertained.
