Democrats Can Flip Texas’ 2nd Congressional District and Oust Dan Crenshaw

Even though, the extreme partisan gerrymandered district was drawn to keep us out.

Texas’ 2nd Congressional District is currently being held by one-term Congressman, Dan Crenshaw. Aside the fact that Crenshaw is a staunch Trump supporter and votes with Trump positions 95% of the time; overall he has been a terrible representative for his constituents.

Dan Crenshaw has shown himself to be a liar, a racist, a misogynist, and an asshole. He is against fair elections, against fair wages, against people having access to healthcare, and pro-fascism. Which is probably why he’s so popular currently with the GOP.

The GOP leg-up in TX2, isn’t as strong as they think.

These maps were specifically drawn to be majority white and majority Republican, in order to disenfranchise democrats and people of color from voting. What we’re all in store for this coming November is many of these gerrymandered districts will flip blue, even though the GOP has done everything to stop it.

Just look at this last election for the 2nd Congressional District, (for this table, using the voting age population from the 2010 census, although it is much higher now).

Year(D)(R)Non-Vote
2018119,992138,188260,820

While Dan Crenshaw only won by 20,000 votes in 2018; that same year, over 260,000 people eligible to vote DID NOT cast a ballot.

Why will 2020 be different?

Because people are sick and tired of Donald Trump, Greg Abbott, and the entire GOP brand of hate and incompetence. Gen Z is of voting age, and they are much more engaged in the political process than some of the previous generations were at that age. Dan Crenshaw has done a lot to piss people off during his first, soon to be only term. And there is an amazing Democratic candidate running against him.

Dan Crenshaw’s issues with racism.

Everyone knows by now, Dan Crenshaw was busted in August 2018 running a white nationalist Facebook group. Antisemitic, Islamophobic, and racist posts were regularly shared on the group’s page, including the false claim that Nazi chants of “Jews Will Not Replace Us” in Charlottesville were staged by liberal activists. Soon after Crenshaw’s involvement was discovered, he parted ways with this group and tried to distance himself from white supremacy. But what does his voting record tell us?

In 2019 the Equality Act was introduced. This bill prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas such as education, employment, and housing. Dan Crenshaw voted against it.

Last year when the House voted to resolution disapproving of President Donald Trump’s comments regarding people of color, including his references to immigrants and asylum seekers as “invaders.” Crenshaw also voted against it.

The Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 was a bill that establishes new criteria for determining which states must obtain pre-approval from the Department of Justice in order for changes in voting practices to take effect. You guessed it, Crenshaw was also against this one, even though Texas has suffered more from the gutting of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, than any other state.

Speaking of elections…

Since Crenshaw comes from one of the most partisan gerrymandered district in Texas, it should be no surprise to you that he is all for voter suppression.

Last year Crenshaw voted against a bill that requires political campaigns to report offers of assistance by foreign governments and ensure online political advertisements are subject to the same rules as TV and radio ads.

He also voted against a bill which would establish election security grant programs and requirements for voting systems and paper ballots.

We should all be asking this same question. Why doesn’t Dan Crenshaw want a fair and equal election? Doesn’t he believe in the rights granted to us by the constitution?

But, how has he helped his constituents?

He voted against a pay raise for federal workers. He voted against the Consumers First Act. Not only did Crenshaw vote against raising the minimum wage, then he lied about the economics of it.

Dan Crenshaw thinks that corporations can secretly ship jobs overseas without disclosing how many, that’s why he voted against a bill which required transparency. Along those lines, he also voted against requiring companies to disclose ownership of LLCs. These two bills alone let executives continue to hold shell companies to avoid taxes and excuse them from paying taxes on overseas employees. But, he doesn’t want tax fairness, that’s why he voted against it.

I’m not so sure he likes women very much, either.

Dan Crenshaw voted against equal pay for equal work. He voted against a bill that prohibited discrimination. Last year he received a huge backlash for mansplaining.

What about healthcare?

As we already know, Texas has the highest uninsured population in America. Countless Texans die every year without access to healthcare. Knowing this, you would think Dan Crenshaw would want to help the people of Texas. Think again.

Dan Crenshaw is a hypocrite.

That’s kind of a “duh” statement about any Republican, but more specifically Crenshaw often contradicts his own words.

Take this video, for example. Where he told another Congress member to stop insulting Americans who voted differently than him.

Undoubtedly, it’s his attempt to act human which is why he’s so popular with the Fox crowd. But does he listen to his own advice? Does he lead by example?

No, of course he doesn’t.

Vote for Change.

This November, you can vote to get Dan Crenshaw out of office, end gerrymandering, and make Texas a better place. Running against Dan Crenshaw is Sima Ladjevardian.

Sima believes every Texan should have access to healthcare, including those who have pre-existing conditions. She is passionate about quality education.

Sima has vowed to stand up for women’s rights and women’s healthcare. She is in favor of common-sense gun reform. And wants equality and fairness for all.

Seriously, she’s awesome. You really have to check her out, if you haven’t already.
